You can use whatever postcards you have lying around (or can get from your local Buy Nothing group); just make sure they're appropriate. For example, postcards of flowers or birds work ok anywhere, but a Yellowstone Park postcard sent to Florida might seem like carpetbagging.
Some programs, such as Blue Wave Postcards, Environmental Voter Project, and Postcards to Swing States, will periodically offer bulk cards and addresses with preprinted election messages targeted to a particular state. You add a very short, scripted handwritten call to action and sign your first name. Often, these campaigns have a particular date to mail the cards on. If you learn of such an opportunity, let's coordinate! We have had fun working on such campaigns as a group.
At your first meeting with us, we will have postcards you can write on. Please make a small donation to cover costs.
ADDRESSES AND SCRIPTS
Many organizations gather addresses to make lists of potential voters for us to write to: Field Team 6, Activate America, Postcard to Voters and more! See their details below.
Each organization has its particular mission or focus, but they all include one or more scripts to use when writing. This is often a message that was tested with many voters in the last election; with others, it's a message constructed to fit the particular candidate or campaign. To get addresses to mail to and scripts to write on your postcards, sign up with one or more groups suggested below.
When we get together, usually there are addresses to share, but it's more fun if you can DIY!
POSTAGE
Postcard stamps are less expensive than First-Class Letter stamps. The USPS “Postcard” Forever Stamp is ideal because it always covers the postcard rate even if prices rise. NOTE: these say "Postcard" on it, not "Forever"; "Forever" stamps are 1st class postage and will work, but cost more.
Any unused U.S. stamps are fine as long as their total equals the current postcard rate ($0.65 as of July 12, 2026). If you're using a stamp that does not show its value as a number, see the table below.
You can order postcard stamps directly from USPS.com (delivery ~10–14 days). There is no sales tax on postage.
Never buy stamps from non-USPS sellers; scammers sell sticker-lookalikes that are not valid postage. You wouldn't want to have all your work wasted!

If you don't have postage - come anyway! Often, people with stamps will provide them at cost. We're an all-volunteer organization, and many people make donations so everyone can participate. We are all in this together!
MISC
Different people like different kinds of pens to write with. That's ok; the important choice here is to avoid ink that is likely to smear.
Highlighters are useful to making key words stand out, such as the voter's name or the last day to vote.
Increasingly, campaigns use QR codes to help potential voters learn more or even register to vote. For these, we use stickers that we print the QR code on, or special cards preprinted with the sticker.
Fun is always a priority!
The mission of Field Team 6 is to register new likely Democratic voters with very targeted postcards and messages. This can be done year-round!
First, register at https://postcards.fieldteam6.org/ . Then, choose which campaigns to support with your postcarding.
Field Team 6 uses "Voterizer.org" to empower anyone to check their voter registration or find out how to register in any state. Their messages work best with the QR code they provide along with scripts and addresses. You can get postcards with the QR code pre-printed on the back, or print them on Avery.com form 5160 self-stick address labels. Always stick them on the back of the card (not the side with the stamp - that might confuse USPS scanners).
Field Team 6 also offers text banking, phone banking, registration drives, and "social storming". It's a very effective organization with a proven track record of adding new voters to the campaigns and state efforts they support.
Postcards to Voters (PtV) motivates already-registered voters to vote in top-ticket, down-ballot, and special election campaigns. PtV is nimble and trusted by campaigns. They quickly get addresses and required messaging to postcard writers.
Visit Postcards to Voters, click the "Join or Rejoin" button to register. They will ask you to write a 4x6 piece of paper with a specified postcard-formatted message. You will photograph that with your phone and send it back to them. A Postcards to Voters staffer will respond and approve your access to addresses. (This may not be instant.)
When approved, visit instructions for retrieval of PtV addresses. There are two pathways to addresses: e-mail a "bot" following a certain format, or interact with the "bot" on message service Slack, which is very quick and easy once you set up the service on your computer or phone. For Slack use with PtV, set up Slack from the designated invitation link here.
When it's time to write cards you'll choose how many addresses (four or more) you'll write in any one batch, promising to complete the cards in that batch within 3 days.

Active NOW offering campaigns to support with your postcards. Founded and based in NYC, Markers For Democracy (markersfordemocracy.org) has grown USA-wide virtual membership. They are a source for postcarders' support and campaign postcard addresses for which you open an account. Markers For Democracy hosts on-line gatherings with Democratic luminaries for postcard-writing sessions. Fascinating, talk to accompany your card writing. Their mission: Markers For Democracy, an all-volunteer organization, is dedicated to building and maintaining an inclusive and educated grassroots community focused on saving American democracy. We achieve this through daily engagement in postcard writing and other forms of activism to promote the election of Democrats up and down the ballot all over the country.
Postcards4VA.org
Postcards4VA is a grassroots initiative to connect with friends, neighbors, and voters throughout the state of Virginia asking them to vote. In 2017 we wrote 137,000 postcards to Virginia voters. In 2018 we exceeded 332,000 postcards. In 2019 we wrote 253,000 postcards and helped flip Virginia blue by taking back the majority in the both houses. When the pandemic hit in 2020, postcard groups stepped up and wrote almost a half million postcards. In 2021, we wrote 320,000 postcards and in 2022 we wrote 307,000. In 2023 we were ALL IN to WIN Virginia. In 2025 we focused on Voting Day 1 up and down the ballot. In 2025, we are supporting candidates in all districts. We write. We Vote. We WIN!
Blue Wave postcards feature pre-printed information for each specific state race or get-out-the-vote effort they support. For their postcards, Blue Wave asks you to add a very short handwritten comment. Pre-printed peel-off address labels to apply to your cards are sent you in the same packet.
Check out Postcards to Swing States at the Progressive Turnout Project. Their postcard sets offer choice between three short handwritten messages informed by their extensive message research. This organization gets results by promoting voting as a social norm. Here you can good information about their methodology and good results. They have offered postcarding since late 2019 to support get-out-the-vote (GOTV) efforts.
This group is offering postcarding programs NOW for several local state elections here in Washington. Help elect good candidates. This team creates postcarding programs that meet all state of Washington election rules. You will support down-ballot races in local communities in your own state.
